The Public Works Authority, known as Ashghal, has embarked on a significant project aimed at bolstering the environmental resilience of Doha West. The initiative, part of the Critical Asset Resilience Programme (CARP), focuses on the construction of a comprehensive stormwater drainage network to safeguard vital assets and enhance public safety.

Targeting four key areas in Doha West – Fereej Al-Manaseer, South Muaither, Bu Sidra, and Al-Sailiya – the project extends its reach up to Al Furousiya Street. This strategic move underscores Ashghal’s commitment to preserving the environment and ensuring the well-being of residents in these areas.

The project comprises several vital components, including the installation of a 4.4 km-long pipeline dedicated to the stormwater drainage network. Additionally, 28 rainwater drainage outlets will be strategically placed and connected to ground pipes. These outlets will feed into pumping stations situated along various streets, including Al Furousiya, South Muaither, Duhail Misfer, Rawdat Hubeira, and Rass Laffan, effectively mitigating flood risks during heavy rainfall.

Furthermore, the project involves establishing 63 connections to drainage network pipelines that serve neighboring projects in the area. This interconnected approach ensures the efficient management of stormwater runoff and contributes to the overall resilience of the region’s infrastructure.

The benefits of this ambitious undertaking are manifold. Notably, it will significantly reduce overflow during rainy seasons, facilitating the swift discharge of ponds and rainwater. This proactive measure aims to alleviate congestion on roads and minimize the risk of traffic accidents, enhancing overall road safety for residents and commuters.

Moreover, the project will play a crucial role in preserving the structural integrity of buildings and roads by maintaining optimal groundwater levels. By preventing potential damage to foundations, Ashghal seeks to ensure the long-term sustainability of critical infrastructure in Doha West.

Additionally, the initiative aligns with Ashghal’s sustainability objectives by harnessing collected rainwater for irrigation purposes. This eco-friendly approach not only conserves water resources but also fosters the expansion of green spaces across Doha, promoting a healthier and more vibrant urban environment.

In summary, Ashghal’s stormwater drainage project represents a significant step forward in enhancing the environmental resilience of Doha West. By investing in robust infrastructure and adopting sustainable practices, Ashghal reaffirms its commitment to creating a safer, more resilient, and environmentally sustainable future for Qatar’s capital city.
