At the Munich Security Conference 2024 held in Germany, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani advocated for the cessation of hostilities in Gaza without any preconditions. The conference, themed “Towards Stability and Peace in the Middle East: De-escalation Challenge,” provided a platform for diplomatic discussions on regional conflicts.
Expressing concern over the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the Prime Minister emphasized the urgency of ending the war and facilitating the release of hostages without imposing additional conditions. He underscored the humanitarian imperative of reuniting hostages with their families and highlighted the detrimental impact of protracted negotiations on the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
While acknowledging recent progress in negotiation efforts, the Prime Minister noted persisting challenges, particularly concerning humanitarian conditions and the number of hostages to be released. He called for a pragmatic approach to negotiations, prioritizing humanitarian concerns and striving for tangible agreements to alleviate the suffering of civilians in Gaza.
Addressing the broader context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for a unified Palestinian government that represents the interests of all Palestinians, including those in the West Bank and Gaza. He underscored the importance of upholding international norms and advocating for a rules-based international order to resolve regional conflicts and promote peace and stability.
In conclusion, the Prime Minister reiterated Qatar’s commitment to facilitating dialogue and negotiation efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and security in the Middle East.
