QF’s Al-Mujadilah Center and Mosque for Women Announces Plans for Holy Month and Celebrates its First Anniversary
Al-Mujadilah Center and Mosque for Women, a member of Qatar Foundation, is preparing for its second observation of the Holy Month of Ramadan since opening its doors to Muslim women from Qatar and across the world in 2024.
“Ramadan is a sacred time for both individual and communal religious growth, as well as a month of reflection, worship, and connection,” said Dr. Sohaira Z. Siddiqui, Executive Director of Al-Mujadilah. “At Al-Mujadilah, we are committed to ensuring that Muslim women have access to programs that allow them to fully embrace the blessings of this month. From our dailyTarawih prayers to hadith and hifth classes, and special sessions for those experiencing Ramadan for the first time, our programs are designed to support and enrich this journey. As we mark our second Ramadan, we look forward to welcoming the Muslim women of Qatar to a Ramadan experience made for them.”
Al-Mujadilah has welcomed over 20,000 visitors since launching in February 2024 and has delivered over 100 programs and events in its first year of operation, with its latest schedule building on its ongoing religious and social programs leading up to Ramadan, led by experienced scholars and practitioners.
Ramadan programming includes intensive hifth courses for Arabic speakers, reflections on selected hadith and Qur’anic surahs, as well as Ramadan support for converts to Islam.
In addition to existing weekly Jum’ah prayers, open exceptionally to both men and women and led by an imam from theMinistry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, Al-Mujadilah will welcome Muslim women and girls aged nine and aboveto join the nightly women-only Tarawih prayers, which will take place after Isha.
During the last 10 nights of Ramadan, a women’s-only Qiyam prayer will also be held following Tarawih.
“Al-Mujadilah was established as a space for Muslim women to worship, and engage in meaningful study and dialogue to uplift their faith,” said Kholood Nooh, Programs Impact Specialist at Al-Mujadilah. “Our Ramadan offerings this year were thoughtfully designed to welcome Muslim women back for another Ramadan at Al-Mujadilah while enriching their religious and communal experience. As we reflect on our growth and achievements since opening in February 2024, the Holy Month offers us a chance to focus and strengthen our connection with Allah and strive for ihsaan (excellence) within ourselves. The lessons of patience, reflection, and perseverance, which fasting instils in us, will guide Al-Mujadilah’s continued goal to support Muslim women in the months ahead.”
The Al-Mujadilah community continues to grow and gather support from local women in many aspects, as exemplified by the growing number of volunteers supporting the center. Last year, 65 women of different ages and backgrounds contributed to Ramadan efforts through their dedicated volunteering.
This year, Al-Mujadilah received over 1,000 registrations from women interested in volunteering during Ramadan, reflecting the commitment of Muslim women to fostering a spirit of service and support during the Holy Month.
“Ramadan is not just a time for inner spiritual reflection, but also for giving back and helping others. That’s why it was important for me to return this year,” said community volunteer Olfat Ibrahim. “Our work as volunteers at Al-Mujadilah fosters a deep sense of belonging and community. My fellow volunteers and I found that this impact continues—even after the holy month ends.”
