Qatar elected vice chairman of ALESCO Executive Council

The State of Qatar has been elected as Vice-Chairman of the
Executive Council of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific
Organization (ALECSO) for the period 2024-2026. This decision was made during
the 27th session of the ALECSO General Conference held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

HE Minister of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) and
Chairperson of Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science
(QNCECS), Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi led the State of Qatar’s
delegation to the session, along with representatives from MoEHE, the Ministry
of Culture, Qatar University and QNCECS.

The three-day session discussed a range of topics on
ALECSO’s performance and future, focusing on reviewing suggestions and
following up on myriad critical decisions, including the establishment of the
Arab observatory center,  discussing the
report of the first session of the ALECSO Business and Partnership Forum for
2024 and the forum’s draft strategy.

Discussions also included supporting the Arab week of UNESCO
to promote Arab culture and civilization, and the development of a response
plan for educational, cultural, and scientific needs in conflict,
crisis-affected member countries and promotes inter-civilizational dialogue
that helps in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Arab
countries.

In conclusion of the conference, the results of the
elections of Executive Council of ALECSO were announced with the State of Qatar
being elected as Vice-Chairman of the Executive Council. Positions were
assigned to Ali Abdulrazzaq Al Marafi also, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was
elected as Chairman of the Executive Council for another term.

Winning this position by the State of Qatar underscores its
ironclad efforts and role in support of joint action at regional and global
levels, in pursuit of building better future for the region and generations to
come, Al Marafi said.

Al Marafi added that by assuming this position, he looks
forward to increasing the contribution to achieving ALESCO’s strategic
objectives and fostering partnerships among the member states to conduct its
projects and programmes, in addition to drawing initiatives that serve its
areas of operation.

ALECSO aims to enhance intellectual unity among Arab
countries through education and science, improve human resource development,
and promote Arab and Islamic culture and language.
