In a remarkable achievement that exemplifies the transformative power of education, Nayef Alyafei, a Qatar Foundation (QF) alumnus, recently graduated alongside the very students he once taught, symbolizing a full-circle moment in his academic journey.

Alyafei’s association with QF dates back to 2005 when he embarked on his Petroleum Engineering degree at Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ), a prestigious QF partner university. Little did he know at the time that this would be the start of a lifelong connection with the esteemed institution.

“When I graduated from TAMUQ in 2009, education became my calling,” Alyafei shared. “I recognized its vital role in contributing to Qatar’s growth and fostering a sustainable society.”

After obtaining a Master’s and PhD from Imperial College in the UK, Alyafei returned to his alma mater, becoming the first QF graduate to join the faculty ranks at TAMUQ. This milestone underscored his unwavering dedication to Qatar’s educational landscape.

However, Alyafei’s thirst for knowledge extended beyond the classroom. He pursued his passion for visual arts by enrolling in courses at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar, another esteemed QF partner institution.

“QF has provided me with a platform to enhance my skills in myriad directions,” Alyafei expressed gratefully. “There is no other place where I could have explored such diverse avenues within the same ecosystem.”

This year marked a crowning achievement for Alyafei as he graduated from HEC Paris with his Executive MBA, alongside the very TAMUQ students he had the privilege of teaching. This shared moment symbolized the culmination of his journey and the indelible impact he has made on the lives of others.

Recently appointed as Associate Professor and Advisor to the President at Qatar University, Alyafei imparts invaluable wisdom to his students: “Focus on learning, not just grades, and above all, ensure you have fun with your experiences.”
