Al Ghadeer Clinches HH The Amir Sword Title

In a dazzling display of equestrian prowess, Al Shaqab Racing’s Al Ghadeer galloped to victory at the H H The Amir Sword Festival 2024, securing the prestigious HH The Amir Sword title at Al Rayyan Racecourse.

Under the skilled guidance of jockey Christophe Soumillon, the five-year-old Al Ghadeer showcased remarkable resilience and speed, outpacing rivals in the $2.5m Purebred Arabians (Gr1) race. With a burst of energy in the final 300m, Al Ghadeer surged ahead to clinch victory, triumphing over Abbes by a length. Trainer Francois Rohaut celebrated a memorable win as Al Doha secured third place in the thrilling contest.

Al Ghadeer’s triumph marked the culmination of the Doha Triple Crown, following victories at Goodwood (Qatar International Stakes) and ParisLongchamp (Qatar Arabian World Cup). The achievement mirrored the success of Ebraz in 2020, making Al Ghadeer only the second horse to claim the esteemed crown.

Amidst a backdrop of exhilarating races, HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani presented the coveted HH Golden Sword and the Doha Triple crown to H E Sheikh Hamad bin Joaan Al Thani. The event, graced by dignitaries including President of Qatar Olympic Committee H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani and Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) Chairman Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi, celebrated excellence in equestrian sport.

The festival also witnessed standout performances from Rebel’s Romance, who dominated the 2400m HH The Amir Trophy Thoroughbreds, and Mohammed bin Fahad A H Al Attiya-owned Molfit, securing victory in the HH The Amir Silver Sword race.

With thrilling races and exceptional talent on display, the HH The Amir Sword Festival captivated audiences, underscoring Qatar’s prominence in the global equestrian arena. As the prestigious event drew to a close, spectators reflected on three days of unparalleled racing action, highlighting the success of the $10m Festival in attracting international participation and fostering a spirit of sporting excellence.
