New Traffic Regulations: Qatar Implements Stricter Measures for Traffic Law Violators
The Ministry of Interior (MOI) has introduced significant changes to traffic regulations, affecting individuals with outstanding fines and traffic violations. These measures aim to enhance road safety and ensure compliance with the law.
Travel Restrictions for Violators
Effective September 1, 2024, individuals who have unresolved traffic violations will not be allowed to exit Qatarthrough any state borders (land, air, or sea) until all fines and dues are settled. This decision underscores the importance of responsible driving and adherence to traffic rules.
Payment Channels
To clear their fines, violators can use the following channels:
- Metrash2 Application: Available for convenient fine payment.
- Ministry of Interior Website: An online platform accessible to all.
- Traffic Sections: Physical locations where payments can be made.
- Unified Service Centers: Centralized centers for various government services.
Mechanical Vehicles and Exit Permits
The same regulations apply to mechanical vehicles leaving the country. To obtain an exit permit, the following conditions must be met:
- No Outstanding Violations: The vehicle must not have any unresolved traffic violations.
- Specified Destination: The final destination or point of arrival for the vehicle must be clearly specified.
- Ownership Verification: The applicant must either be the owner of the vehicle or provide proof of the owner’s consent to exit the country.
Notably, vehicle exit permits are not required for vehicles bound for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries or goods transporting vehicles.
Incentives for Early Payment
In a bid to encourage timely fine settlement, the traffic department has announced a 50% discount on traffic violation fines. This discount applies to the following groups:
- Qatari Citizens
- Residents
- Visitors
- GCC Citizens
The reduced fine rate will be in effect from June 1, 2024, until August 31, 2024. It covers violations recorded within the past three years.
