High-Flying Humanity: Qatar Airways and UNHCR Extend Wings of Hope providing 400 tonnes of free tonnage

In Doha, Qatar, Qatar Airways and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have prolonged their collaboration for an additional two years, aimed at assisting vulnerable refugees and internally displaced individuals globally with transportation of relief supplies.

The agreement, formalized in Doha and set to endure until 2025, signifies the third extension of their partnership, initially forged in May 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The signing event, held between Qatar Airways Group CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al Meer, and UNHCR High Commissioner, Filippo Grandi, was attended by UNHCR’s Representative to Qatar, Ahmed Mohsen, and Qatar Airways Chief Cargo Officer, Mark Drusch.

Engr. Al Meer announced Qatar Airways’ commitment to provide 400 tonnes of free tonnage to UNHCR, facilitating the delivery of essential aid supplies. Leveraging its Hamad International Airport hub and expansive network, recently acclaimed as the ‘World’s Best Airport’ at the Skytrax Airport Awards, the airline aims to bolster humanitarian efforts.

He emphasized the capabilities of Qatar Airways’ cargo division, the world’s largest global air cargo operator, equipped with a fleet of 28 freighters and access to over 200 passenger aircraft, serving a network spanning 70 freighter destinations and over 170 belly-hold destinations.

Furthermore, he underscored Qatar Airways Group’s unwavering dedication to supporting those most in need.

Grandi expressed gratitude for the partnership’s renewal, acknowledging its significant impact and highlighting Qatar Airways’ expanded support. He emphasized UNHCR’s extensive operations, addressing the plight of millions of displaced individuals globally.

Grandi lauded Qatar Airways for its crucial role in shedding light on often overlooked humanitarian crises.

In closing, he expressed hope for further expansion of their collaboration, urging Qatar Airways to take pride in supporting some of the world’s most vulnerable populations.
