More than 600 Mosques in Qatar Will Host Eid Prayers at 5:32 AM Local Time
The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) disclosed on Saturday that Qatar’s residents have access to 642 mosques and prayer grounds for performing Eid Al-Fitr prayers across the country.
These prayer sites encompass various regions including The Pearl, Lusail, Al Khor, Umm Salal, Duhail, and Al Wakrah, among others. Additionally, notable venues such as the Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani mosque and Education City Stadium, the legacy stadium of the FIFA 2022 World Cup, are designated for Eid Prayers followed by festivities. Check the complete list.
This year witnesses an increase from the 590 prayer locations announced by Awqaf last year for Eid Al-Fitr. The prayers are scheduled to commence at 5:32 am local time, marking the beginning of the festive day. Moreover, the Crescent Sighting Committee, under the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, has officially announced Tuesday, April 9, 2024, as the concluding day of Ramadan, and Wednesday, April 10, 2024, as the commencement of Eid Al Fitr celebrations in Qatar.
Traditionally, Eid Al-Fitr festivities commence with the performance of dawn prayers, drawing large crowds of worshippers to mosques or outdoor prayer areas, in adherence to the traditions of Prophet Muhammad. Following the sermon, Muslims exchange greetings and well-wishes.
While many countries in the region typically synchronize their announcements with Saudi Arabia, occasional errors in the moon sighting process have occurred. For instance, in 2015, Riyadh prematurely declared Eid Al Fitr due to the misidentification of Saturn instead of the crescent moon.
