In an exciting development for Qatar’s football officiating community, two Qatari referees, Abdulrahman Al-Jassim and Salman Falahi, have been named in FIFA’s preliminary list of referees for the 2026 World Cup. The prestigious tournament is scheduled to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Abdulrahman Al-Jassim, aged 37, boasts a distinguished career as a FIFA international referee spanning back to 2013. His illustrious track record includes officiating at high-profile events such as the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup and serving as a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, held in Russia. Al-Jassim’s expertise has been recognized on numerous occasions, notably at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup and the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup final, which took place on home soil in Qatar. Additionally, he was selected as part of the refereeing team for the historic 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar.
Salman Falahi, aged 24, has rapidly ascended the ranks of FIFA referees since his induction in 2017. Notably, Falahi transitioned to the role of video assistant referee (VAR) in 2021, showcasing his adaptability and proficiency in modern officiating methods. Falahi’s journey commenced in the Qatar Stars League in 2014, gradually culminating in international recognition. He has officiated at various national and international competitions, including the AFC Champions League and the 2023 U-20 World Cup, where his officiating skills shone brightly.
The inclusion of Abdulrahman Al-Jassim and Salman Falahi in FIFA’s preliminary list underscores their exceptional expertise and invaluable contribution to the field of football officiating.
